Breakaway group sweeps Telangana polls

Telangana Rashtriya Samiti has swept elections in the Telengana region of Andhra Pradesh state.

The resignation of 12 legislators in the region's breakaway bid in February had forced the polls.

The Bharatiya Janata Party had won one seat as counting of votes progressed Friday evening.

The breakaway issue threw the southern state into turmoil sparking widespread protests.

The TRS campaigns for Telangana region to be declared as a separate state, and the outcome of the popular vote is expected to boost the campaign.
